UNC Charlotte Faculty Member Dr. Christopher Smith Honored by Appalachian State University’s Trillium Society
On October 25th, 2024, Christopher Smith PhD, MSN, RN, GCQM, a valued faculty member at UNC Charlotte’s School of Nursing, was inducted into Appalachian State University’s Trillium Society at the Beaver College of Health Sciences. This honor recognizes Dr. Smith’s exceptional contributions to the nursing profession and his remarkable leadership as a two-time graduate of Appalachian State University.
What is the Trillium Society?
Founded in 2022, the Trillium Society celebrates individuals and advisory board members who have made significant impacts in health and wellness. Named after the trillium flower, the society champions Leadership, Innovation, and Caring—values that unite faculty, students, alumni, and friends of the college.
Emerging Leader Award
Dr. Smith was awarded the prestigious Emerging Leader Award, highlighting his accomplishments as a professional and an educator. As a first-generation college student, he holds several groundbreaking achievements in App State’s Nursing program. Notably, he was the first student to complete and publish a thesis as a graduate student in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program and went on to become the first App State Nursing graduate to complete a doctoral program, earning his doctorate from East Carolina University.
We are proud to celebrate Dr. Smith’s accomplishments and his dedication to nursing education, both at UNC Charlotte and beyond. His journey is a source of inspiration to his colleagues and students alike, demonstrating that the spirit of leadership, innovation, and compassion thrives within the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing community.
