S.O.N. Faculty Invited as Keynote Speaker at International Conference on Gender and Health Professions

Christopher M. Smith, PhD, MSN, RN, GCQM, Assistant Professor, has been invited to serve as one of two keynote speakers at the upcoming Nordic Gender Conference on Men’s Underrepresentation in Communal Occupations, taking place August 26–28, 2025, at the University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway.
This international conference brings together researchers, educators, and professionals across disciplines to examine gender imbalances in communal occupations, with a particular focus on health care. Dr. Smith will share insights from his research interest on men’s underrepresentation and gender biases in the nursing profession. The second keynote will be delivered by a scholar from the field of psychology, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of the event.
While Dr. Smith’s primary research centers on cardiometabolic health, his ongoing scholarship on gender and nursing explores the sociocultural and institutional barriers that contribute to the persistent underrepresentation of men in the field. His work has been recognized for offering both critical and practical perspectives on diversity in nursing.
