Professor Drew McGuffin, DNP, MSN, RN, of the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing, has been spearheading several meaningful service initiatives through the Gamma Iota chapter of Sigma. The efforts, carried out in collaboration with the Association of Nursing Students (ANS) and the School of Nursing, reflect the university’s commitment to community engagement and service.

Supporting Veterans with Holiday Cheer: Students and faculty donated 60 holiday stockings to a local veteran organization, spreading gratitude and joy to those who have served.

Messages of Appreciation: ANS members organized a card-writing event, creating heartfelt notes for soldiers and veterans to remind them they are valued and remembered.

Fighting Food Insecurity: The groups also collected and donated a substantial amount of items to the Care Ring Food Pantry, helping provide essential resources to families in need across Charlotte.

The School of Nursing continues to encourage service learning and community involvement as integral parts of nursing education. By partnering with organizations like Sigma, ANS, and Care Ring, UNC Charlotte nursing students are making a tangible difference in the lives of others while strengthening their professional and civic responsibility.
