School of Nursing Faculty Selected for UNC System Nursing OER Initiative
We are thrilled to announce that three of our outstanding faculty members, Tiffany Jackson, DNP, NP-C, ACHPN, Suzanne Trotter, MSN, BSN, and Jessica Hernandez, MSN, have been selected to participate in the second stage of the University of North Carolina System Nursing Open Educational Resources (OER) Initiative!
Beginning in Fall 2025, this phase aims to expand the use of the OER Nursing Courses developed through the initiative across the entire UNC System. Tiffany, Suzanne, and Jessica will play an important role in advancing this effort to enhance access to high-quality educational resources for nursing students.
Initiative Expansion Overview
In Fall 2025, the initiative will focus on implementing two key courses, Fundamentals of Nursing and Community Health Nursing, across all nursing programs within the UNC System. The expansion is supported by a funded Faculty Development Program, designed to help nursing faculty adopt and integrate these OER resources into their teaching practices.
Faculty Responsibilities and Involvement
As part of the initiative, our faculty will participate in a guided faculty development program to adopt the OER version of Community Health Nursing, engage in professional development to effectively use and promote OER, and implement the courses to support educational affordability, accessibility, and student success across the UNC System.
We look forward to following the progress of this important initiative and commend our faculty for their dedication to fostering innovation and inclusivity in nursing education.
