In Memory of Dr. Lucille Lombardi Travis: A Visionary Leader, Educator and Mentor

The UNC Charlotte School of Nursing community is mourning the loss of Dr. Lucille Lombardi Travis, former Director and Professor, who passed away on April 28, 2026.

In honor of Dr. Travis’s remarkable life, distinguished career, and enduring commitment to nursing education, leadership, and mentorship, a scholarship has been established in her memory through the generosity and efforts of her dear friend and colleague, Dr. Sonya Hardin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the School of Nursing Excellence Fund at the University of Texas, San Antonio, which will continue Dr. Travis’s legacy by supporting excellence in nursing education and the development of future nurse leaders.
