With a passion for the profession of nursing and for life-long learning, Laura Magennis, DNP, MSN, RNC-OB, NPD-BC  was led to the role of Strategic Partnership Coordinator at UNC Charlotte’s School of Nursing. In this role, she works closely with clinical partners across the region to promote and elevate clinical experiences for the nursing students at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Magennis works closely with undergraduate students to facilitate clinical education throughout their nursing program. As a University Honor’s Faculty and Graduate Faculty, Dr. Magennis often serves as chair or committee member for students’ scholarly projects. Additionally, Dr. Magennis serves as the primary nurse planner for the School of Nursing’s approved provider unit for nursing continuing professional development (approved through NCNA).

Her nursing experience includes maternal-child nursing (NICU, Labor & Delivery, mother-baby), as well as nursing professional development. She was a Maternal-Child Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for many years at CaroMont Health prior to working at the Charlotte Area Health Education Center (AHEC) as a nurse education specialist. With a passion for the profession of nursing and for life-long learning, Dr. Magennis earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a focus on interprofessional education. Her professional certifications include In-Patient Obstetrics and Nursing Professional Development.

Dr. Magennis was the recipient of the NC Great 100 award in 1999. She is also a 2014 graduate of the North Carolina Nurses Association’s Leadership Academy. In 2022, Dr. Magennis received the Faculty Service Award for the College of Health & Human Services. In addition to NCNA, Dr. Magennis is a member of the American Nurses Association, the North Carolina Nurses Association, and the Gamma Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Dr. Magennis has proudly served as a Board Member for NC MedAssist since 2023.
