UNC Charlotte Faculty Highlighted in Tarheel Nurse for Innovative DNP Program

We are thrilled to share that two of our esteemed faculty members, Judith Cornelius PhD, MS, RN, ANEF, FAAN, and Florence Okoro, PhD,
RN
, have been featured in the Fall 2024 issue of the Tarheel Nurse for their insightful article titled “Fostering Global Learning Among DNP Students.” This article delves into how our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program has adapted to the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic by incorporating innovative approaches to nursing education.

The article highlights the inclusion of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) assignment within the DNP course Global Health and Social Justice. This initiative allows students from UNC Charlotte to engage with peers and faculty from Nigeria and South Africa, fostering an environment of international collaboration and intercultural understanding. Through virtual platforms like Canvas, students participate in a five-week assignment that includes ice-breakers, team projects, and joint presentations, all designed to enhance their cultural competence and global perspective.

The faculty’s dedication to integrating global learning into the DNP curriculum demonstrates UNC Charlotte’s commitment to preparing nursing professionals who are not only skilled in their practice but also globally conscious and culturally humble.

For those interested in learning more about this innovative approach to nursing education, you can read the full article on pages 12 and 13 of the Tarheel Nurse.
