NinerNursing Professor Secures Prestigious UK Grant to Enhance Cardiovascular Care

This past week, Christopher M. Smith, PhD, MSN, RN, GCQM, an Assistant Professor at the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing, was awarded an external grant from the Academy of Medical Sciences in the United Kingdom for his project titled “Advancing Interdisciplinary Networks: Shared Decision Making in Cardiovascular Disease Management.”
This initiative aims to enhance collaborative approaches to cardiovascular care by fostering interdisciplinary networks and improving shared decision-making processes. Dr. Smith will lead the faculty in collaborative research efforts with colleagues in the United Kingdom, aiming to enhance interdisciplinary approaches to cardiovascular care. Dr. Smith would like to recognize Carolyn Horne, PhD, MSN, RN, BCB is a member of the research team and credits her with his grant success. Dr. Horne has mentored Dr. Smith since 2018, brought him into the research team as a graduate research assistant in 2019, and has been a colleague since 2022.The grant, part of the Academy’s Networking Grants scheme, provides funding over one year to support collaborations between researchers in other countries and the UK, facilitating networking events aimed at strengthening global research capacity.
